The Zayed National Museum dazzles in 2024: the jewel of Abu Dhabi highlighted by National Geographic

Projects in Abu Dhabi are moving forward, and in recent days, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed personally oversaw two of the most prominent constructions. In the Saadiyat Cultural District of Abu Dhabi, some of the city’s cultural gems will be erected, further boosting the artistic position of the United Arab Emirates in the world.

The authority oversaw the area, where the construction is 83% complete. This district will include the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum, two sites that National Geographic highlighted as the most important places to visit in 2025 and points of interest that will captivate this year. With this project, Abu Dhabi joins the network of cultural institutions in the capital, which also includes representatives of artistic culture such as the Louvre, New York University, the Manarat Al Saadiyat cultural center, and the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.

Within the Saadiyat Cultural District, the Zayed National Museum stands out as one of its main promises. This site will be a true tribute to the rich history and culture of the country, dazzling with its unique design resembling falcon feathers. The central atrium is completed, while the interior designs are in the final stages of completion. The aim of this magnificent building’s formation is to tell the story of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1918-2004), the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, and to pay homage to his achievements.

This space is designed so that its galleries convey the values and beliefs of this personality concerning education, conservation, environment, sustainability, heritage, and culture, as well as his humanitarianism and firm faith. As defined on the official culture page of Abu Dhabi, “the museum will also provide a global perspective on the natural and human history of the United Arab Emirates. It aims to foster a greater understanding of the country’s culture and geography and its connection to the world.”

National Geographic created a list of the most important cities to visit in 2025, and Abu Dhabi is included in this prestigious list. Among the qualities of the emirate, the travel publication highlighted the Saadiyat Cultural District as one of the most significant places coming in 2025. “Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi is scheduled for completion in 2025. It already houses the Louvre Abu Dhabi and will soon inaugurate the Zayed National Museum and the highly anticipated Guggenheim Abu Dhabi,” the publication emphasized. In this context, in addition to the Zayed National Museum, the Guggenheim will also have its space in this enclave.

The Guggenheim is designed to be the “leading museum of modern and contemporary art in the region” as it will be part of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation network, which promotes the communion of modern and contemporary global art from different cultures. The building, which is still under construction, encompasses around 30,000 square meters, where the most representative art collections from West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia will be housed.
