Dubai launches its smart floating police station to lead maritime technology

In Dubai, technology is also applied to everyday life and the safety of citizens. In recent weeks, Dubai Police announced the first floating smart police station in the Middle East, which will be launched from 2026.

This new program was officially presented by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, whose intention is to advance such technologies to improve the working methods of security officers, as well as ensure the well-being of all inhabitants.

This new floating system is aimed at boat and yacht owners as well as those who frequently engage in water sports. What makes this case unique is that this new mechanism does not require human intervention and will carry out automated operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where criminal and traffic reports will also be processed.

According to its developers, this smart security system is also aligned with Dubai’s project to become one of the world’s most technologically advanced cities, ensuring the comfort of its residents. Therefore, this mechanism proposes a seamless experience for arrivals, boarding, and disembarking, utilizing artificial intelligence and robotics.

Dubai’s floating SPS is the fourth of its kind developed in the city. Prior to this project, there are SPS for car service, walk-in SPS, and other land-based smart service centers. These types of mechanisms ensure efficiency in reporting, where residents can file their complaints efficiently using the best of artificial intelligence.

In 2023, the city’s police announced the arrival of autonomous and electric patrol cars powered by artificial intelligence. These vehicles have a battery that supports 15 hours of continuous patrolling, advanced 360-degree security cameras, and facial recognition technology. Additionally, they have high capabilities to detect suspicious behaviors and alert the police control center.

Among the initiatives that ensure the safety of Dubai residents, the ‘on-the-go’ program was launched in 2024, providing quick assistance and services to both residents and tourists who need to file reports for incidents and accidents. With this initiative, people will not need to visit the police building as smart devices and advanced technology are used to handle such tasks swiftly.

‘On-the-go’ operates at 138 gas stations across the emirate, where staff assist those affected by accidents, breakdowns, lost items, and cybercrime to complete minor accident forms and obtain accident reports against unknown individuals within minutes. The measure reduces waiting times and helps Dubai Police patrols maintain traffic flow. This service is offered for free to senior citizens and pregnant women. Other drivers can benefit from the service for a fee of 150 dirhams.
