Abu Dhabi chose Spain as the ideal site for its expansion in renewable energy and established key partnerships that enabled investments of over 2 billion euros. Now, Abu Dhabi continues this trend through one of its most iconic sustainable projects<\/strong>: Masdar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This platform achieved two new subsidiaries in Madrid and established the so-called Masdar Espa\u00f1a Renewables and Masdar Espa\u00f1a Anri, under the umbrella of Masdar Espa\u00f1a Holding<\/strong>, which are set up in the Iberian territory with the intent of developing projects with this type of energy. All this news was revealed at the ADSW 2025 Summit in the capital, which is held with the aim of promoting sustainable progress and unlocking opportunities for economic transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masdar’s alliances and strategies are diverse, with various agreements made in recent times that position Spain as one of its primary targets. Among the most notable partnerships is the acquisition of Saeta Yield for 1.2 billion euros. Additionally, it reached an agreement with Endesa to acquire 49.99% of a portfolio of photovoltaic parks<\/strong> totaling 2,000 MW for 817 million euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masdar continues to expand internationally and has also maintained agreements with Iberdrola to invest 15 billion in offshore wind and green hydrogen projects<\/strong> across Europe and the United States, marking the tendency to broaden its horizons within the global energy network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s<\/a> interest in Spain’s energy sector is reflected in other actions. The shareholder Taqa sought to acquire shares in Naturgy through a deal that ultimately failed. Moreover, Mubadala, Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund<\/strong>, holds an active stake in Cepsa and Enag\u00e1s, highlighting the UAE’s presence in the Spanish energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These agreements indicate Masdar’s aim to reach a significant target that the government has set for 2030: achieving 100,000 MW of green energy worldwide. The objective is to deliver the largest share of clean energy in this country<\/strong>, focusing on sustainability from the UAE’s capital and considering Spain as a key platform for its global growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the previously mentioned alliances, Masdar aims to accelerate the global growth of clean energy, expand the footprint of renewable energy, and become the main driver of the UAE’s Net Zero strategic initiative for 2050. Within this framework, this platform has developed projects in more than 40 countries across six continents<\/strong> with a combined capacity of over 31.5 GW.
