Abu Dhabi continues to add experiences for its residents and visitors, and this time, it has decided to bring a piece of Las Vegas so that tourists can enjoy one of its most impressive immersive experiences. In Abu Dhabi, the construction of the twin building of Sphere was announced, a unique entertainment space that revolutionized the American city and also promises to captivate the United Arab Emirates.
The Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi confirmed the arrival of this new venue to the capital, which, as they defined it, will have a “privileged location” and will be exactly like the original Sphere with a capacity for 20,000 people. This project will be overseen by the emirate’s authorities, who will have to bear the construction costs and pay a fee for the use of the brand, technology, and intellectual property of Sphere Entertainment.
An immersive experience from Las Vegas to Abu Dhabi.
Sphere is a spectacle in itself and one of the most important attractions in Las Vegas. Its stunning façade captivates the most curious visitors who approach the Sin City and find there an imposing globe-shaped building that projects dazzling images. This same experience is what is being replicated in Abu Dhabi, where projects of this kind are a fundamental part of government policy, aimed at boosting tourism and the development of cutting-edge technologies.
Within this spectacular construction, renowned concerts have also been held, such as those by U2 and Phish, and it has also been offered as a venue for sporting events. Sphere has also served as a location for film projects like Postcard from Earth, directed by Darren Aronofsky, and V-U2 An Immersive Concert Film.
Sphere, the new addition that enhances Abu Dhabi.
H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, president of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi, was the one who officially announced the inclusion of Sphere in the Abu Dhabi scene. With the intention of increasing cultural and technological offerings in the city, the official confirmed that this new attraction will contribute to the growth of the emirate.
“This project aligns with our Tourism Strategy 2030, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s profile as a vibrant center of culture and innovation. By adopting cutting-edge entertainment like Sphere, we not only elevate our global profile but also set new standards in immersive experiences and cultural offerings,” he stated at the official launch.
How Sphere will be, the attraction of Abu Dhabi.
Although the project is in full process, the Sphere building in Abu Dhabi promises to break any mold. The original Las Vegas construction was inaugurated in 2023 and is located on the Las Vegas Strip, near the famous casino The Venetian. This space was envisioned by James Dolan, the CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainment, who intended to recreate a live show venue combined with an immersive, high-tech experience.
With a height of 112 meters, this giant sphere is divisible from great heights and has a uniqueness that makes it one of a kind, the “exosphere.” This is what allows different images to be seen from the outside through LED screens. This sector has more than 1.2 million screens, enabling stunning visuals. The interior also features impressive details and has a state-of-the-art immersive sound system designed to make every spectator feel as if they are in the center of the action.
