Abu Dhabi will launch one of its most ambitious projects that combines art, culture, and the environment at the end of 2024. At the forefront of innovation, in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi is developing teamLab Phenomena, a huge experiential art space of 17,000 square meters in the Saadiyat Cultural District that was launched in 2022 and continues to grow. This site is designed to spark curiosity, imagination, and creativity in all who visit.
This enormous building began construction in recent years, but it is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, providing a space that experts have referred to as “the home of infinite curiosity.” With this modern building, the artworks are not abstract but are shaped within a vast space and created by the environment, triggering various natural phenomena and offering a unique experience with each visit.
The digital museum that is revolutionizing Abu Dhabi.
As defined by its creators, one of the fundamental characteristics of teamLab Phenomena is to offer an immersive experience that combines environment, nature, and works of art. The work of this space is aligned with the Saadiyat Cultural District of Abu Dhabi, alongside institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, with the intention of offering an immersive and different experience that sets a precedent in the capital. This site was created in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism and Miral, whose executives highlighted its value and its imprint in the creation of this cultural space.
“The vision of Miral to develop teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is to provide a captivating cultural journey that brings a new realm of educational exploration and creative discovery to the emirate,” the executives asserted. This space also marks the congruence between art and the environment, characteristics emphasized by its creators. “A key feature of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is the environment and the various phenomena created by it. ‘The environment stabilizes the structure of these phenomena, and the stabilized phenomena become the artworks themselves,'” they stated.
What to do in Abu Dhabi’s “home of infinite curiosity.”
This project began as an interdisciplinary work by teamLab, based in Tokyo, and aims to create a unique experience for visitors where nature is part of the artworks on display. These productions are realized by the artistic space and the environment in which visitors can be part of this madness experience. Before its official launch, the teamLab Phenomena museum released a series of experiences encouraging “infinite curiosity,” taking them on a journey of wonder and sensory exploration.
As the official versions define, at teamLab Phenomena “visitors will immerse themselves in a world that changes and evolves organically through the participation and actions of the people who inhabit it, and it is precisely this physical experience that can expand our sense of value.” The director of the space assured that the goal of teamLab Phenomena is to create opportunities for curiosity and imagination to be born. “By offering a journey that will activate the senses, feed curiosity, awaken imagination, and spark a thirst for knowledge, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi fully supports our commitment to inspire a new generation of innovators and creators in the emirate and beyond,” he stated during the official presentation of the project.
