The children of a billionaire want to transform the abandoned islands of Dubai with luxury mansions

A multimillion-dollar project in Dubai has been left abandoned after a meager investment. The billion-dollar plan consisted of creating an archipelago of almost 300 artificial islands that replicated the shape of the seven continents, similar to those known in geography.

This plan, typical of a destination like Dubai, was launched by the UAE’s own Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2003. This unique architectural model, called “The World Islands,” allowed investors to choose which spot on the planet they liked best and thus inhabit one of those islands shaped like the countries of the world. However, the investment of more than 12 million dollars has led to nothing, and the plots of land remain largely uninhabited.

The multimillion-dollar plan they want to revive in Dubai

But amid the desolation over this ownerless million-dollar plan, the children of a famous and wealthy businessman wanted to reclaim some of the abandoned islands to turn them into new luxury destinations with enormous mansions. This involves siblings Ali and Amira Sajwani, children of Hussain Sajwani, one of the richest people in the United Arab Emirates, with a fortune exceeding 5 billion dollars, according to Forbes.

The young entrepreneurs intend to move forward with Amali Island, a real estate development aimed at reviving the “islands of the world” and building 24 mansions, a beach club, and twin helipads. For the moment, it is known that 19 of the 24 beachfront villas have been sold and that the remaining lots are being marketed at the modest price of 13.6 million dollars.

Amali Island features more exclusive details and is designed for the more reserved entrepreneurs to have their private space away from any disturbances. The villas will spread across some territories of “The Islands of the World,” covering 1.2 million square feet, with each having up to 50 meters of private beach.

Part of the uniqueness of this project is that it will offer buyers seven different architectural styles for the villas, allowing clients to customize their beachfront home, adding their personal flair and brand. The project will also include resort-style amenities, such as a clubhouse, private docks, a helipad, and floating paddle courts. As part of the revival of the famous archipelago, this destination will connect the islands of Uruguay and Sao Paulo.

Why the city’s most ambitious multimillion-dollar project failed

The renowned “Islands of the World” are an emblem that some projects can fail in Dubai. This site has been classified by the website Top Luxury as the “most useless mega project in the world.” Since its inception in 2003 until now, a couple of islands have been fully constructed, while the others consist of a collection of abandoned land parcels that no one wants to invest in.

Experts also claim that these islands have begun to show signs of erosion, which could alter their value. However, the multimillion-dollar Amali Island project promises to redefine the space and use it for a plan that will bring new energy to Dubai. For this reason, this cutting-edge idea will connect the islands of Uruguay and Sao Paulo, leaving behind other land parcels that have owners but are waiting for construction to happen there.
