Dubai joins the fight for energy generation with sustainable and CO2 emission-free systems, which is why a new discovery has caught the attention of major business leaders. In Dubai, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) confirmed the operation of the Barakah nuclear plant.
This power plant aims to generate electricity for more than 25% of the country’s population, thereby avoiding the use of oil in all its facilities. The truth is that this system has sparked some controversy because its discovery is even riskier than this very component.
Dubai and the Plant That Stirred Controversy
The Barakah nuclear plant has four reactors that can produce 40 terawatt-hours of electrical power annually, capable of supplying energy to more than a quarter of the population, including that of 16 million electric vehicles. This system can produce energy continuously, without emitting greenhouse gases, and with an average lifespan of 60 years.
The main goal of Barakah is to significantly reduce harmful gas emissions to the environment and become the largest clean energy source in the Middle East. Furthermore, products associated with this energy source can be sold at very competitive prices to meet the needs of companies in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, authorities consider that this atomic energy is economically viable.
The dangers of Dubai’s new energy source
The presentation of this new nuclear plant in Dubai is considered the flagship of climate change in the world. According to estimates, it will be able to reduce the emission of about 22 million tons of carbon dioxide and monoxide annually, which would be equivalent to the gas produced by nearly 5 million cars.
However, not all that glitters is gold in this new energy venture, and organizations responsible for environmental care warn about the consequences of a nuclear plant and its risks to the population. According to their studies, this energy system could generate radioactive waste that affects people and the environment, so its impact should be properly studied. However, for the moment, no concrete reports on these causes have been presented, and the company Barakah appears as the most viable option to reduce the consequences of climate change and environmental pollution.
