Abu Dhabi fills up with adrenaline with driverless car races

Abu Dhabi has managed to surprise the world once again with an innovation worthy of a futuristic film. Abu Dhabi has fulfilled the fantasy of science fiction lovers and created the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, or A2RL, as its acronym indicates.

This circuit features a revolutionary technological innovation that uses autonomous cars, the new trend in developed countries that is here to stay. This project not only tests cars of this kind but also sets a precedent for a new way of conceiving transportation in the world.

Autonomous Racing League of Abu Dhabi, or A2RL, marks the new global trend regarding driverless cars that could be permanently implemented in various nations. With investors focusing on this technological development, Abu Dhabi launched the world’s first driverless race. The first of these took place at Khalifa University, where various specialists in this type of innovation gathered from around the world. In this event, the artificial intelligence software of these vehicles was skillfully operated by the teams to optimize maneuvers during the course.

Although this type of race without drivers already existed, this was the debut experience in including a competition among four driverless vehicles. Despite this circuit, autonomous cars still require further studies and analysis because their development is not yet complete. Specialists assert that this type of vehicle still needs to tackle challenges posed by technological, infrastructural, and regulatory barriers that are currently unresolved.

Despite being a city in constant transformation, in Abu Dhabi, driverless cars are still a dream. Their definitive installation in daily life requires extensive studies and analyses to ensure safety for users. According to a recent report by S&P Global Mobility, the widespread implementation of autonomous vehicles “is a long-term goal, not something we will see in the immediate future.”

Experts in this field stated that competitions with driverless cars should take place on suitable tracks. Meanwhile, the Yas Marina circuit features tight corners, chicanes, and hairpins. Additionally, it includes elements of an urban circuit, making it more complicated for these types of vehicles to execute maneuvers or brake.
